10 Top Engagement Shoot Locations in Perth Western Austalia

Updated: Mar 18, 2022

Beaches, Parks, Vineyards, Hills and Intriguing Buildings - Perth has some epic locations for engagement shoots. Here are just a few of my favourites….

1 The University of Western Australia (UWA)

Iconic historic buildings with immaculate gardens and grounds and gorgeous light. I did my Masters Degree here and it has a very special place in my heart. With its quintessential European-inspired architecture, wrought iron entrance, stain glass, and pond, Winthrop Hall creates a classic and timeless backdrop.

2 Fremantle

When ever I go to Freo I am transported back the period buildings and ambiance of Melbourne. Take your pick from gorgeous traditional heritage buildings, beaches, light houses, sunsets, street art and architecture, not to mention the unique bars and cafes and you are absolutely spoilt for choice!

3 Kings park

King park is a popular wedding venue as well as engagement shoot location with its spectacular panoramic city views. For nature lovers the variety of flowers, trees and plants provide perfect backdrops. Or if your are more into wishing wells, monuments, rotundas or the DNA tower it’s all there in that epic golden light.

4 Perth Hills

Araluen Botanic Park is set in a beautiful valley of the Perth Hills, this is lovely all year round, but absolutely unbelievable in tulip season in early Spring. Raeburn Orchards is also in the Hills, and is perfect in both spring and autumn when the trees are in full bloom and when their leaves are those amazing burnished colours. If manicured gardens are more your thing another Hills location is Masonmill Gardens.

5 Perth City

Hyde park with it’s towering Maple Trees and lake and Queens Gardens (where I got married!) with it’s pond, gazebo and Peter Pan statue are both great locations in the city that are fabulous all year round. The city has amazing locations for Street Art, Architecture and fabulous “Doors” - check out St Georges Tce sometime and you’ll be amazed! Not forgetting King St with all the luxury designer brands for a totally opulent magazine over look if that’s your style or His Majesty’s Theatre and Old London Court. One of my absolute favourite spots is Elizabeth Quay (affectionally know as Bettys Jetty) and the iconic Bell Tower, Spanda and Elizabeth Quay Bridge. So much to see and places to photograph - something for everyone.

6 Swan Valley

Where do I start - seriously - there are so many awesome locations right on the city’s doorstep. Most popular are the wineries, both large and small, which offer unique opportunities for photographs in old buildings, with barrels, old trucks and of course the vines themselves. Sharing a romantic meal can also make fun engagement photos. Some of my favourite places include: Chapel Farm, Caversham House, Brookleigh Estate, Sandalford Winery, Riverbank Estate and Mullberry on Swan.

7 Iluka & Burns Beach

For the beach lover we have two amazing beach locations very close to us - these are stunning backdrops with rocks, sand and surf especially in the golden light of early morning or just before sunset. Silhouttes after sunset are also popular. Depending on how you feel about get wet - you can stroll by the water’s edge, wade out or plunge into the surf, or lay on the shore together and let the waves caress you!

8. Wanneroo Pines & The Secret Garden (Gwellup)

I LOOOOOVE Wanneroo Pines, the light is fantastic and being surrounded by nature and birds gives an etherial feel your photos - AWESOME. The magic can be felt in the Secret Garden in Gwellup where you are surrounded by trees and vines and a babbling brook - right in the middle of suburbia!

9. Nature & the Elements

York is great for it’s historic buildings and architecture but its also great for the nearby canola fields along the way which can make for really gorgeous relaxed photos. Yanchep National Park has the the old Yachep Inn and the lake which are fabulous but I must admit its the most MIND BLOWING Caves that take my breath away! A bit further North takes you to the awesome sandunes at Lancelin which are unique, romantic and powerfully minimalistic. It’s so worth the trip up there. And if you are up that way or don’t mind travelling a bit another absolutely magical earthy spot (and sentimental to Vince and I) are the Pinnacles at Nambung National Park.

10. Your Home or Your Special Place

Whilst most couples don’t even consider an engagement shoot at home, it can be totally romantic and intimate - as this is where you two love birds relax, chill and feel totally safe. This comes across in your photos. Sometimes you might want to go to somewhere or do something that is sentimental or significant to you both or your relationship - maybe where you first met, your first date or where the proposal happened - these all make ideal locations no matter where they are - since they transport you back to the emotion and memory of those special moments which reflect in your expressions.
